Extensions should be maintained approximately every 8 weeks to keep natural hair as healthy as possible! The extension weft hair has a lifespan of approximately 6 months to one year, so following the steps below will ensure you get the maximum lifetime out of your extension wefts by keeping them as healthy as possible!

Brushing your extensions frequently is very important.
We recommend using a high quality paddle brush and starting at the very bottom, eventually working your way up to just below the attachment points to ensure no tangling or matting will occur, as this is the most likely place that can happen.

Washing your extensions is just like washing your natural hair. You will want to use the products recommended by your extension specialist. Using the correct product reduces the chance of any damage happening to the extension hair and prolongs the life of the hair. Be sure to gently scrub between each row to ensure no product buildup occurs. This is very important for your scalp health! We also recommend only applying your conditioner to the mid-lengths and ends of your natural hair and extension hair, avoiding attachment points.

When styling your extension hair, be sure to use the proper heat setting on your hot tools as recommended by your extension specialist to ensure the least amount of heat damage possible! Always use a heat protectant before styling. When blow-drying your extensions, we recommend drying the hair about 85-90% of the way before starting in with your round brush or paddle brush to cut down on the amount of tension being applied to the attachment points.

Always go to sleep with dry hair, tied up in a ponytail, braid or ballerina bun. Always use a scrunchie or soft hair tie in this process to protect your hair and cut down on drag and friction. Clips, bobby pins and other metal/plastic hair accessories should absolutely be removed before bed time. To further protect your new hair, we suggest using a silk pillowcase!

Is it real hair?

Yes! We use only ethically sourced, human hair of the highest quality in our hand tied extensions.

Can you wash your hair with extensions?

Yes! You will wash your hair just like you normally do when you have hand tied extensions, but paying extra care around the attachment points. An added bonus is that most extension clients find they do not need to wash and style their hair as often as they normally with their natural hair.

Will I still be able to work out and/or swim?

Absolutely! Most hand tied extension clients find they are able to maintain all the same activities they always have. Hand tied extensions can be put in ponytails, braids and buns. We do recommend keeping sunscreen away from the extensions because in some cases it can cause discoloration that is irreversible.

How much do hand tied extensions cost, how long does it take and how often do they need to be maintained?

Hand tied hair extensions vary in price depending on length and density but an average new installation ranges from $1450-2000. New installs include all coloring of a client's natural hair, coloring of the extension hair, the application of the extensions, custom cutting and blending, styling, take home maintenance products and mini styling lesson. Installations typically take around 3.5-4.5 hours. Extension maintenance appointments need to be scheduled every 6-8 weeks and typically average between $525-$725 and always includes the haircolor maintenance. These timing of these appointments is between 3.5-4.5 hours.

I just got a pixie cut that I hate, can I get extensions?

Probably not. Clients that are the best candidates for hand tied extensions have layers that are no shorter than their chin. Extensions are not a solution for hair that is severely damaged or broken or very, very low density. However, they are fantastic for clients that have fine hair, thin hair, curly hair, coarse hair, thick hair, postpartum hair, hair that has thinned because of medication or hormones, or normal, healthy hair that’s in need of length and/or density.

How long do extensions last?

The hair extension wefts typically last 4-9 months before they need to be replaced. A good home maintenance routine is key to prolonging the life of your extensions.

Are extensions damaging to my natural hair?

No! With proper care and maintenance, hand tied hair extensions can actually improve the health of your hair.

How do I style my hair with extensions?

When you brush your hair with extensions, you will take care not to brush over the attachments points. Make sure you blow dry hair at least 85-90% before starting in with a round or paddle brush. Excessive heat is not necessary and can actually cause damage to your natural hair and deteriorate the quality of the extensions. We find it helpful to curl or straighten your hair into the extension so that they look natural. We also find that the extensions are happiest when they are not over conditioned or subjected to excessive styling products. Your extension specialist will send you home with the right ones for your specific needs and show you how they work.

What special care do I need to take with extensions?

We recommend no high buns or tight ponytails for the first week after a new install or maintenance appointment. This tends to be uncomfortable as this is when your extensions are tightest. Do not wear your sunglasses or glasses on top of your head when you’re wearing hand tied extensions as this can compromise attachment points. Avoid sunscreen on the extensions - it can cause discoloration that is irreversible. Do not brush over the extension attachment points. Wear your hair in a loose bun or braid when sleeping to avoid excessive tangling. Be patient for the first few weeks after a new installation of hand tied extensions. Allow your extensions to settle in with your natural hair and give yourself some time to get used to working with them. Avoid excessive oils, creams and leave in conditioners on the hand tied extensions.

Can female pattern baldness be fixed with extensions?

No, unfortunately hand tied extensions do not cover the areas of the head that are typically associated with female pattern baldness.
